Surfboard design- Internship
Surfboard Fin- University Module

Although not a client, Arno Surfboards were kind enough to give me the opportunity to combine my graphic design work with my passion for surfing. This allowed me to create unique pieces of surfing equipment that I could actually use within the sport. I had two main opportunities to work alongside the Arno team: the first was creating a 9.5-inch longboard fin using my driftwood pattern fabric design, and the second involved continuing with the same pattern as a fabric inlay on a full-scale surfboard.
This was the final outcome of my surfboard fin featuring the driftwood pattern. It turned out to be an absolutely stunning piece, made possible by the skilled craftsmanship of Kingsley. Learning how a surfboard fin is made was a really unique and eye-opening experience, especially seeing how the different materials used in surfboard construction can cross over into other areas — in this case, incorporating silk fabric designs.
These are the final outcomes from the full surfboard fabric inlay using one of my driftwood pattern designs on a 7'10 long fish surfboard. I still can’t believe Arno Surfboards agreed to let me be involved in building the board, as it gave me the chance to understand every step of the process from start to finish. The final result was something I couldn’t have imagined beforehand — the board turned out better than I expected after taking care at every stage to ensure the measurements, cuts, and sanding were accurate and precise. This is an opportunity I’ll never forget, and I hope it leads to more experiences within both the surfing and design worlds.
